Online Media and Global Communication

 

The world today is in an era filled with uncertainty. The intensification of geopolitical conflicts, the opacity in regional governance, the frequent occurrence of economic turbulence, along with the opportunities and technological barriers brought by artificial intelligence, all make the construction of a more effective global communication discourse system an urgent task. Simultaneously, various communication platforms and models are reshaping the ways in which the international community responds to challenges and opportunities, profoundly influencing the formation of global consensus and actions. In this wave of transformation, the media undoubtedly plays a pivotal role, not only in shaping global structures, national images, and public values but also in significantly affecting the trajectory of international relations.

 

The 8th Annual Conference on Image Studies and Global Communication, themed “Navigating Global Uncertainty: Discourse, Media, and Global Governance,” cordially invites scholars and industry experts from journalism and communication studies, foreign language and literature studies, political science,area studies, and related disciplines to convene and explore the intricate interplay between discourse, media, and governance in this era of transformation. By fostering dialogue and innovative thinking, we aim to chart new pathways for a deeper understanding of and response to the uncertainties of our rapidly evolving world.

 

Forum Topics (including but not limited to):

1.     Media narratives and discourse reconstruction in an era of uncertainty

2.     Building a global governance discourse system in times of uncertainty

3.     The new landscape of global communication amid geopolitical conflicts

4.     Public diplomacy and national image in the digital age

5.     Digital communication and global crisis management

6.     Algorithmic governance and AI-driven discourse transformation  

7.     Global communication platforms and multicultural interactions

8.     Language policy and communication in global governance

9.     Data sovereignty and national security from a media perspective

 

Submission Requirements:

1.     The call for papers is open to scholars both domestically and internationally. Full research papers and panel proposals in either Chinese or English are accepted.

2.     Papers and panel proposals are not restricted by field or discipline. Submissions from diverse areas such as journalism and communication studies, foreign language and literature studies, political science, area studies, and related disciplines are welcome. The length of the submission should be between 7,000 to 12,000 words. The main text of the paper must not contain any personal information to facilitate anonymous review.

3.     Please submit your paper as an email attachment to: globalopinion@shisu.edu.cn, with the email subject line formatted as “2025 Annual Conference-Institution-Author-Title.”

4.     Submission Deadline: May 15, 2025.

 

Expenses:

There is no conference registration fee. The conference committee will provide meals on the day of the event. Attendees should pay for their own transportation and accommodations.
